Community Involvement

From a young age, I always enjoyed working with children. Kids are full of positivity and never-ending surprises, and there’s something so gratifying about witnessing, or playing a role in, their personal growth. So, when a college friend presented me with the unique opportunity to volunteer at a pediatric oncology camp called Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times, aka Camp, I jumped at the chance.

The rest, as they say, is history, and my life has never been the same.

Camp Ronald McDonald for Good Times (CRMFGT) creates a positive, long-lasting impact on children with cancer and their families by providing fun-filled, medically supervised, cost-free camp programs year-round. For nearly 38 years, CRMFGT has provided respite for more than 1,600 special children annually. Because the organization operates free of charge, it is heavily reliant on more than 300 dedicated volunteers who work directly with children and families in providing healing, transformative programming.

Over the past 13 years, I have enjoyed spending more than 2,500 hours with the organization as a camp counselor and impacted the lives of 17,000 campers. Volunteering with the campers puts life into perspective. During each week-long stay, I see campers transform from shy and self-conscious into confident children comfortable in their own skin. Camp provides them a respite from their often grueling realities and a chance to feel like a kid again. In addition to volunteering as a camp counselor, I have served on the Board of Trustees since 2017 and served as the board President from 2019-2020. During my time on the board, we were proud to have raised more than $2 million in funding which will build a new camp village and provide additional space for campers during their stay at CRMFGT.
